This morning, Bungie confirmed via an update on their website that their next content update for Destiny 2, set to release on June 9, would be the game’s last, as they end support to focus on new projects.

The final update will deliver on several of the most common player requests from the game’s lifetime, including the return of the mission director, Sparrow League Racing, and a new Pantheon raid boss gauntlet for endgame players to sink their teeth into.

A full list of updates to the sandbox and loot is in the post itself.

Bungie also notes that they’re aiming to deliver “small character beats” to leave both the story and its characters in interesting places, all the while delivering a few callbacks and touching on the game’s core themes.

It’s hard to speculate what Bungie will begin work on next; however, it’s assumed they’ll continue to support Marathon, which is just weeks away from its second season, which should help buoy its dwindling player numbers.

It was following the release of the extraction shooter that SIE reported an impairment loss of $765 million relating to Bungie assets.

Harry reviewed the last major Destiny 2 expansion, The Final Shape, at its release, declaring it “a worthy finale.”

“We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all,” Bungie’s statement reads.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us. From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we’ll see you in the stars.”
