With the first half of the year in the rearview, it’s absolutely fair to say we’ve had some banger months and some unexpectedly excellent games that’ll find themselves in contention when it comes to discussing Game of the Year in just a handful of months.
Although we know what awaits us in September and, of course, November, July does feel like the beginnings of a gentle ramp-up to a busy end of year.
Ubisoft is looking to remain afloat with the much-anticipated remake of Black Flag, the arguable diamond in what has been an up-and-down franchise in Assassin’s Creed, whereas Doom: The Dark Ages’ big expansion takes things back to year zero for the Doomslayer.
Perhaps most significant is Halo, the most Xbox game there perhaps ever has been, coming to PlayStation. It was once unthinkable to imagine Master Chief doing his thing anywhere else, but this is 2026.
