Southern Cross Austereo Acquires Press Start

Southern Cross Austereo has announced a further development in its digital strategy. The Australian Media company have acquired Video Gaming publisher Press-Start.com.au and hired its founder and owner, Shannon Grixti as its Managing Editor.

Grixti developed the robust content publisher in the lucrative video gaming market and has grown rapidly over two years. On the back of the trust its has with its audience and the future potential of the market, SCA believe it’s a no-brainer acquisition.

Grixti has been named in APAC’s 30 under 30 twice and has grown his audience to roughly 30,000 Social Media followers. SCA see this as a massive commercial opportunity given their own reach and scale from its traditional media assets and Social Media klout.

SCA’s digital content strategy is formed on the principal that they wish to reach more Australians than any other media company in the digital world.  This is yet another step in our content diversification and digital transformation as a business, they say.

Guy Dobson, SCA’s Chief Creative officer believes the move is further testament to the company’s ambition and vision.

“We know finding digital-savvy talent is the way of the future and Shannon is one of those young guns who just do. He’s smart, strategic and savvy…. and he’s bloody 24. Watch this space.”

Grixti added, “SCA have offered me an opportunity to take PressStart to the next level. Their Social scale across Australia is incomparable to their competitors. It’s the megaphone PressStart needs to become truly great. I’m excited to explore the next chapter of Press Start.”

Grixti starts with SCA on March 27th with the process of migrating PressStart.com.au to SCA’s content platform as soon as possible.
