Early Saturday morning, Dr Disrespect was banned from Twitch (allegedly for good). It’s been more than 24 hours and we still don’t know why this has been the case. Dr Disrespect had recently signed a major deal with Twitch and had several major sponsors on the platform.
Twitch’s statement hasn’t revealed much information: “As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community.”
Rod “Slasher” Breslau was the first to report the ban, and has said it’s not a DMCA (in relation to misuse of music). He has said that he knows the reason why Dr Disrepect was banned but “due to the importance and sensitivity around the subject” he doesn’t feel comfortable going into it.
look: for several hours now I have been told from credible sources the reason DrDisrespect has been banned. however due to the importance and sensitivity around the subject I have refrained from going on it. i don't feel comfortable with it currently
What’s even more interesting is the fact that Dr Disrespect was streaming just before all of this unfolded. In an eight minute passage of video marking his last time on stream, Dr Disrespect appears to get a text from his wife at about two minutes into this video, before telling her to go away a few minutes later. Another five minutes pass and it appears that somebody has gotten into his house at which point he abruptly ends the stream.
It’s unclear at this point what Dr Disrespect has done, but it’s obviously serious and something that appears to go beyond Twitch. Twitch has refunded his subscribers as well, proving that it doesn’t look like he’ll be back anytime soon.
We’ll keep you posted if we hear anything further on this. It’s quite likely we may never find out the exact reason, but it’s also obvious that people seem to know what’s going on within the industry.
