Hideo Kojima Has Confirmed A Death Stranding Movie Is In The Works

The video game to film/TV pipeline is growing wider and wider lately, with HBO’s The Last of Us just around the corner, God of War confirmed for a television series at Amazon and now word that a Death Stranding movie is entering production.

Deadline has reported that the man himself, Hideo Kojima, is teaming up with Hammerstone Studios (founded by Alex Lebovici, Executive Producer on the recent Barbarian), to finance and develop the film. Kojima Productions US and Allan Ungar will serve as executive producers.

“I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios. This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them in bringing Death Stranding to the big screen.”

No plot details or cast have been announced, but Deadline claims that it’s set to introduce new characters within the game’s world.

“We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation. Unlike other big budget tentpole video game adaptations, this will be something far more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This film will be an authentic “Hideo Kojima” production.”
