After it was announced that the highly-awaited sequel would once again be filmed in Australia, this time in Queensland, Deadline has reported four new cast members confirmed for Mortal Kombat 2 (not to be confused with Mortal Kombat 1).
As per the report, Martyn Ford (Fast and Furious 9), Desmond Chiam (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Ana Thu Nguyen (One Night) and Damon Herriman (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) are all joining the cast with Ford playing Shao Kahn, Chiam playing Edenian King Jerrod, Nguyen as Queen Sindel and Herriman cast as Quan Chi. If you’ve not seen Ford in anything before, I urge you to look him up. He’s a big boy and will no doubt make for a very convincing Shao Kahn.

Deadline has also confirmed the full returning cast, which includes some interesting roles given events of the first film. Lewis Tan will of course return as Cole Young, with Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, and Max Huang as Kung Lao. The outlet continues to confirm that Johnny Cage will be played by none other than Karl Urban, though that still seems “officially” unconfirmed at this stage.
Earlier in the year it was also revealed that Moon Knight Season 1 head writer, Jeremy Slater, had been hired by Warner Bros. to pen the script for Mortal Kombat 2, saying “I don’t think it’s necessarily going to have the same tone as the MCU, but it’s definitely going to have some of my sensibilities. That was part of my pitch to them. This is ‘Mortal Kombat.’ We have guys who are ripping off their faces and breathing fire—it’s a weird universe, let’s embrace some of that weirdness, and let’s make a ‘Mortal Kombat ‘sequel that no one is expecting and that can kind of sneak in and blow everyone away. We’re still really early in that process, but I’m having a blast with this script.”
The Mortal Kombat franchise is hot right now, with a brand-new mainline video game entry titled Mortal Kombat 1 having been announced recently for a release in September.
