The SXSW Sydney Games Festival Will Be A Public Event With Over 150 Indie Games On Show

This looks great!

SXSW Sydney is fast approaching its October debut, bringing together folks from across Australia’s creative industries with a week-long event focussed on tech and innovation, games, music and screen all in one place.

While SXSW Sydney proper is geared towards industry professionals with badges costing anywhere from $1k-2k depending on the level of access, it’s been revealed that there will also be public-facing events running in tandem that are comparatively more affordable to take part in.

One of these is the SXSW Sydney Games Festival, which will run for five days and nights from October 18th to 22nd and include a heap of events and activities, including a showcase of over 150 indie games from the APAC region featuring the likes of Another Crab’s Treasure, The Dungeon Experience, B?: Path of Teal Lotus, Kinder World, Wood & Weather, Gubbins, The Godfeather and many more (see the currently-announced lineup here).

Those who pick up a Games Wristband will have access to a bounty of gaming experiences awaits across multiple venues in the SXSW Sydney event precinct, including the flagship games site at Fortress Sydney. There’ll be live playthroughs, product launches, performances, screenings, hands-on demos, parties and a heap more to take part in.

The drawcard attraction will no doubt be the Games Showcase, where wristband holders can discover and play content from more than 150 developers from around the world, along with the Tabletop Festival at the ICC, which will bring together the best of traditional, RPG, and card games. You’ll also gain entry to the XR Showcase, charity marathon stream, and the Games Awards hosted by local comedian and musician Tom Cardy.

Wristbands for the Games Festival will be available starting this Friday at an early bird price of $165, with more details over on the official website.
