Hideki Kamiya, vice president and co-founder of PlatinumGames, has announced his intention to exit the company as of October 12th.
Kamiya’s career at Platinum dates back to its very founding, which he was a part of in 2006, and where he created and directed the original Bayonetta before going on to help bring The Wonderful 101, Astral Chain and more to life. Before co-founding PlatinumGames, Kamiya also directed the excellent Okami, Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe at Capcom.
Platinum’s statement revealing the creator’s exit reads, “We regret to announce that Hideki Kamiya will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12th, 2023.
“We are truly grateful for his creative ideas, leadership, and contribution to the growth of PlatinumGames from our start-up to this very day.
“We believe that he will continue to succeed in his future endeavours as a game creator. We are looking forward to seeing the game industry grow into a better place with him in it. We wish him all the best for the future.”

Kamiya followed up with his own message, saying “As announced on the official PlatinumGames X account, I will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023. This came after a lot of consideration based on my own beliefs. and was by no means an easy decision to make.
“However, I feel this outcome is for the best. I will continue to create in my Hideki Kamiya way. I hope you’ll keep your eyes peeled.”
Kamiya was known to be working on a new superhero title, codenamed Project GG, the fate of which, once his departure is finalised, is currently unknown.
