The Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed almost two weeks ago, and we’ve been slowly getting looks at the Nintendo Switch 2 home screen and various parts of the user interface courtesy of the Nintendo Switch 2 websites both in the US and Japan.
NINTENDO SWITCH 2 HOME SCREEN
The most interesting so far is definitely the home screen. It looks fairly similar to the original Nintendo Switch, but the game cards are now rounded and there’s several new items along the bottom all which have a new multi-coloured circle around them.
There’s now 10 items along the menu as opposed to seven currently. They are:
- Nintendo Switch Online (existing)
- Chat (new)
- Notifications or Messages? (new)
- Nintendo eShop (existing)
- Gallery (existing)
- TBC (new)
- Controllers (existing)
- Virtual Game Card (new)
- Settings (existing)
- Sleep (existing)
NINTENDO SWITCH 2 ONLINE APP
The Nintendo Switch online app will be returning with some changes. It looks like it will pull over many design changes from the home screen including the new multi coloured selector as well as more rounded icons.
There also seems to be a brand new screen that displays a gallery of all the games on the Nintendo Switch Online service including GameCube games as well, so it’ll be interesting to see what else is there.
NINTENDO SWITCH 2 ESHOP
The Nintendo Switch 2 eShop will now have a red design and it looks totally different to how it does on the current Switch. It seems as though it’ll be very clear which games are Switch 2 and which are OG Switch games with a banner that is present at the top of each title.
There’s a bunch of menu items most of which carry over but some of which are new:

- Search (existing)
- Recommendations (new)
- Wishlist (new)
- Sale (existing)
- Rankings (existing)
- New releases (existing)
- Coming soon (existing)
- Nintendo Switch Online (existing)
- Enter voucher (Existing)
NINTENDO SWITCH 2 CHAT APP
We also got a decent look at the new chat app in the Nintendo Direct. This will have the ability to turn off and on items such as video, microphone and screen sharing and presumably another menu where you can add people to the chat as well as tinker with settings, but UI-wise, it seems very in-line with the rest of the Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 design principles that we’ve seen.
