Today’s stacked The Game Awards event has brought with it plenty of accolades, updates, first looks and surprise reveals, awarding some of this year’s best and most exciting games and studios while setting up an exciting future to come.
Of course, the real meat of the awards isn’t just the huge announcements, but recognising another year of fantastic video games with well-deserved awards across a number of categories – including the coveted Game of the Year.
And this year’s winner, presented by none other than Timothee Chalamet, is… Baldur’s Gate 3.
We gave Baldur’s Gate 3 a huge 10/10 in our review earlier this year, saying “Baldur’s Gate 3 is a landmark achievement for CRPGs and gaming at large. The only thing more staggering than its immense scope and density of systems is the quality in which it’s all presented. Its unwavering flexibility and accommodation for player choice is intoxicating, and the replay value on offer here will no doubt cement Baldur’s Gate 3 as a timeless and regularly revisited masterpiece. For a game as rich and complex as this, it also works surprisingly well on console.”
