Fallout 4’s PS5/Xbox Series Update Has Been Delayed Into 2024

They don't want to set the world on fire (yet).

Bethesda has revealed that the current-gen update for Fallout 4, which it announced late last year for a 2023 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, is now slated to launch at some point in 2024.

The post sharing the news simply reads, “Thank you for your patience with us as we work on the Fallout 4 next-gen update. We know you’re excited, and so are we! But we need a bit more time and look forward to an exciting return to the Commonwealth in 2024.”

As far as we know from the initial announcement, the update isn’t a particularly comprehensive one but will bring a new 4K quality visual mode, new Creation Club content and some extra bug fixes and improvements.

Fallout’s having a bit of a moment of late, with a TV adaptation nearing its premiere on Prime Video. The first trailer dropped recently and paints a fairly positive look at the show:

Set in Los Angeles a whole 200 years after a nuclear apocalypse, Fallout will follow Lucy (Ella Purnell) as she steps out of Vault 33 into the unknown. The trailer gives us glimpses of life on the outside with plenty of new faces, Radroaches, power armour and… Dogmeat?? Maybe not, but there’s no denying they chose a German Shepherd on purpose, here.

“Based on one of the greatest video games of all time,” reads the official summary on the show’s Prime Video page which you can see here. “Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them above.”

Fallout premieres on April 12th, 2024 exclusively on Prime Video. You can find out more about Amazon Prime subscriptions and a free trial here.
