Helldivers 2 Is Already The 7th-Best Selling Sony Game Of All Time In The US

And Dragon's Dogma 2 has outsold its predecessor/s in just a month.

The market research firm Circana (formerly NPD) has released its most recent findings on the US video game market for the month of March (and year to date), with industry analyst Mat Piscatella sharing the stats and findings on social media and showing some pretty stellar results for some of 2024’s early hits.

Leading the pack for March was Capcom’s hugely-anticipated sequel, Dragon’s Dogma 2, which not only debuted as the best-selling AAA title for the month but as the third-best for the year so far. It’s also already managed to surpass the tracked dollar sales of both Dragon’s Dogma and Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen combined, according to Piscatella (and to be clear, based on data from the US only).

Unsurprisingly, it was trailed by Helldivers 2 which continues to dominate after taking the top spot in the previous month and holding onto the crown for the year to date. Astonishingly, Piscatella says that the game has managed to rank 7th in lifetime US dollar sales for any Sony published title, a feat it’s achieved in just two months in the market and with a “budget” price tag and proposition.

You can see the full chart for March below, specifically for sales in the US market and with a few caveats around digital sales tracking. Rise of the Ronin and Princess Peach: Showtime both also debuted quite well, while Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth dropped from the #2 spot in February to (somewhat appropriately) rank 7th this time around. It’s also neat so see Vanillaware’s fairly niche effort in Unicorn Overlord managed to crack well into the Top 10 in the US:

While we don’t have as broad or nuanced a comparison locally, the very latest weekly Aussie chart data from IGEA and Game Sales Data suggests that the Fallout franchise is still going very strong here with Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3 all entering the Top 5 alongside Helldivers 2 in the week from April 15th to April 21st.
