Ubisoft Has Multiple Assassin’s Creed Remakes In The Works

Assassin's Creed Syndicate, please!

In an interview of CEO Yves Guillemot conducted by Lucy O’Brien and published to its own website, Ubisoft has confirmed that it’s got more than one Assassin’s Creed remake in the works.

Guillemot told O’Brien, who had asked about what the company’s approach to new Assassin’s Creed releases will be going forward, that players should be excited about “some remakes,” noting that there are worlds in older titles that are still rich and worth re-exploring and modernising.

It’s a small nod to some future possibilities, but exciting nonetheless for old-school AC fans and potentially lines up with earlier rumours of a remake of the much-loved Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Throughout the rest of the interview, Guillemot also speaks to things like Ubisoft’s handle on the GaaS market, its in-house engines and the state of the industry. The CEO also manages to get out some last-minute advocation for the use of generative AI in game development, which is a very games CEO thing to do.

On the Assassin’s Creed front, we’ve had Mirage, which was a leaner homage to the series’ roots, and now Shadows, which is much larger in scope and more in the vein of Odyssey/Valhalla. Looking at the future, can we expect this continued variety? Smaller games alongside bigger ones?

YG: Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich. Secondly, to answer your question, there will be plenty of experience variety. The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year. There are a lot of good things to come, including Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which we’ve announced, which is going to be a very different game from Assassin’s Creed Shadows. We’re going to surprise people, I think.
