Ubisoft has today announced a major organsiational, operational and portfolio reset that will pave the way forward for its studios to make games that are successful for the company but has also ultimately resulted in 6 games being cancelled including the Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake and another 7 games essentially delayed.
- Ubisoft has discontinued 6 games that do not meet the new enhanced quality as well as more selective portfolio prioritization criteria at Group level. These include Prince of Persia The Sands of Time remake as well as 4 unannounced titles, including 3 new IP’s, and a mobile title.
- In parallel, the Group will allocate additional development time to 7 games in order to ensure enhanced quality benchmarks are fully met and maximize long-term value creation. This includes the unannounced title initially planned for FY26, that has been delayed to FY27.
This is essentially the second time that the Prince of Persia The Sands Of Time Remake has been cancelled or had its development restarted.
In a statement on social media, the team said:
“To the Prince of Persia community, We want to share this with you directly.
We’ve made the difficult decision to stop development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. We know this is deeply disappointing. The game carries enormous meaning for fans and for the teams who worked on it.
While the project had real potential, we weren’t able to reach the level of quality you deserve, and continuing would have required nore time and investment than we could responsibly commit. Anc we didn’t want to release something that fell short of what The Sands of Time represents.
Prince of Persia as a universe and a legacy continues to matter deeply to us, and this decision does not mean we’re stepping away from the franchise.
Thank you for your passion, patience, and love for Prince of Persia.
— The Prince of Persia Team”
