A New Darksiders Game Has Been Revealed With A Teaser Trailer

It's time to ride.

Now here’s a series I was in danger of forgetting about, despite loving the original couple of entries – at a digital showcase that publisher THQ Nordic ran over the weekend, a mysterious teaser was shown for a some kind of new Darksiders project.

The video barely runs for 50 seconds, and hasn’t a sniff of any characters or real hints as to what’s cooking, but here’s what we got. The trailer starts with a lengthy series of shots inside a hot and hazy cavern before we eventually see the three fiery heads of The Charred Council, who bellow “Horseman!” before we cut to the words, “Be Prepared To Ride Again.”

It’s… not a hell of a lot to go off, then. We do learn that the studio behind whatever this is is Gunfire Games, which is specifically responsible for Darksiders 3 and has roots in the first two games thanks to the studio being founded by creator/director, David Adams. In other words, there’s a bit of reason to hope for this to be a brand-new mainline entry or even a remake of the original. Gunfire also developed last year’s excellent Remnant II, so it’s in good hands either way.

“The foreboding rumble of caverns eons old. Embers swirl through the air, cast up from pools of bubbling lava,” reads a description on the Xbox Wire blog introducing the trailer.

“Three enormous heads, hewn from otherworldly stone suddenly burst into life with mystical flame. The Charred Council roar a single word in unison: HORSEMAN.

“It won’t be long until we reveal more about where the Darksiders series is going next, but for now, know this… the Four Horsemen will ride again.”

The most recent Darksiders game was spin-off, Darksiders Genesis, which we scored a 6.5/10 when it launched back in 2020. At the time, James said, “Make no mistakes, Darksiders Genesis plays and feels like a Darksiders game. It’s just not a particularly strong one. Repetitive enemy encounters, simplistic puzzle design and average platforming all stop Genesis from being as good as it could be. Co-op is a blast, as is the great dynamic between War and Strife, but it doesn’t save the experience in the end.”
