Disney Lorcana is about to hit one of the Trading Card Game’s biggest milestones since its launch. Releasing on August 29th (mass release September 5th) is Fabled – the 9th set of the Disney & Ravensburger TCG. The team at Ravensburger has dubbed Fabled a ‘Celebration’ set, where players and collectors the like will find 171 cards are reprints of the first four sets, with 33 being completely new cards. With the release of Fabled also comes some massive shake ups to the card game – with its biggest being card rotation.
For those unfamiliar or new to the TCG world, card rotation is where a certain selection of cards become unplayable in the standard way of play at local game store leagues, competitive tournaments and constructured play. For Disney Lorcana, the release of Fabled marks the occurrence of the first four sets of the franchise no longer being legal to play in these core constructed formats (at home/with friends? That’s all still good! And they’ll be a new Infinity format too).
Hence why a large portion of the cards in the Fabled set are reprints, giving new players and players who started their Lorcana journey a little later on the chance to grab some of the core, key cards for deck construction, as well as a way to say goodbye to some of those OP original cards that have cost an arm and a leg to get a playset of since their release. Card rotation, alongside some of the new cards in the Fabled set, will bring about a whole new way to play, which means a refresh of the game mechanics for those already addicted to the game, as well as the perfect time for newcomers and those who have been meaning to learn the game to jump right in.
Alongside card rotation and reprints, Fabled is also introducing two new rarities to Disney Lorcana: Epic and Iconic. Iconic cards are now the most rare card you can be chasing as a collector. There are only two per set, incredibly rare and far less common than Enchanted cards. With beautiful full-card artwork, special lore star foil pattern and the new 3D hot stamping – these Iconic cards will easily become the ultimate reward for those on the shiny card hunt!
As for the new Epic cards, these are now the rarity between Legendary cards and Enchanteds. There will be 18 Epic cards in each set, and a little easier to find than Enchanted cards (giving someone like me who has only managed to score one Enchanted across the 8 previous sets much needed hope!).
And speaking of Epic cards, we have the absolute pleasure of exclusively revealing one right here, right now…welcoming back to the game with a new shiny, epic look is:
Robin Hood – Capable Fighter is getting brought back to life in an epic way with the release of Fabled. This Dreamborn Hero 2 Ink Cost, Uninkable card has been a fan favourite since it’s release in the Rise Of The Floodborn set. With a strength of 1 and willpower of 3 , Robin Hood can deal some sneaky blows to the opponents board with his Skirmish ability – ‘Exert this card to be able to deal 1 damage to chosen character’. From the creatively illustrative mind of Noukah, Lorcana fans get to continue the fun with Robin Hood – Capable Fighter in a beautiful, frameless, epic shiny card – now becoming the ultimate Shift target for the equally epic (in vibes, not rarity) Robin Hood – Champion of Sherwood, which is not only being reprinted as well, but also has the Enchanted version from set 3, Into the Inklands.
You can only imagine the look on your opponents face when you drop the new Epic version of Robin Hood – Capable Fighter, then Shift him a turn later into an Enchanted Robin Hood – Champion of Sherwood – the ULTIMATE flex!
