On April Fools ‘ Day, of all days, the official Nier X page has posted a short teaser for a new project, currently dubbed Nier: Cosmic Horror. Understandably, fans have no idea what to believe.
The teaser, which runs at just over 20 seconds, shows a slow fade-in of Emil’s iconic grin, followed by the reveal of an almost Xenomorph-like biomechanical figure.
In standard existential fashion, the post reads: “Is hope born from nothingness? Or is it despair disguised as salvation?”
Obviously, the million-dollar question is whether the project is, indeed, real or not. Square Enix did announce just a couple of months ago that the series would continue in some form, and so perhaps that lends legitimacy to this reveal.
Although Nier: Automata was released nearly a decade ago, creator Yoko Taro has been hard at work on trying to get other projects off the ground, though nothing has materialised as yet.
We’ll be sure to confirm when the truth is revealed about Nier: Cosmic Horror.
