New Alola Region Pokémon Revealed

Earlier today, GAME FREAK’s co-founder Junichi Masuda and leading game designer Shigeru Ohmori took to the stage at Gamescom in Cologne to announce the brand new Pokémon, Turtonator, which can be found in the upcoming Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon’s tropical Alola region. Watch the reveal trailer below:

Turtonator is classed as a Blast Turtle Pokémon and resides around volcanos, often camouflaging itself as a rock as it awaits its prey. The Pokémon feeds on sulfur and other similar materials that can be found in the area surrounding volcanic activity and as a result, Turtonator’s shell is covered with a layer of explosive material. This unique feature of the Blast Turtle Pokémon’s physique comes into play during battle, when Turtonator is struck by an opponent, sparks fly from the horns on its shell, igniting this covering layer and causing an explosion. Additionally, Turtonator can learn the exclusive move Shell Trap. Turtonator begins its turn by laying a trap for its opponent, resulting in a severely damaging blast when Turtonator is attacked.

A summary of Turtonator’s basic information can be found below:

Name: Turtonator
Category: Blast Turtle Pokémon
Type: Fire/Dragon
Height: 6’07”
Weight: 467.4 lbs.
Ability: Shell Armor

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon will be available exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS handheld on November 18, 2016.
