That was until The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild released for the Nintendo Switch. It’s now rated equal second alongside Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, Grand Theft Auto IV and SoulCalibur.
Many expected the game to be amazing, but you couldn’t predict it ending up with a 98 (out of 100) on Metacritic and almost matching the unmovable Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.,
It’s an impressive feat as it’s a lot harder to score higher these days, which much more outlets being included into Metacritic than it was 10 or so years ago.
We gave the game a 10 in our review and said:
“The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will go down as one of the best launch titles of all time. Yes, technically it’s a Wii U game that was ported over to the Nintendo Switch, but Nintendo made the right decision in holding this game back. It perfectly compliments the Nintendo Switch and highlights why it has the potential to be such a great console. Many have doubted Nintendo’s ability to bring this series into the modern gaming age, but they’ve done that and taken it one step further in creating one of the best open-world action-adventure games ever made.”
