TUNIC, one of the most celebrated indie efforts in recent years, is special for a lot of reasons. Most of all though, it’s memorable for how it riffs on video game staples of old, like printed instruction manuals of biblical scope. It’s a crucial part of the game’s design and its charming, retro-but-fresh experience, and the folks behind the design of the game’s gorgeous physical release haven’t forgotten that.
Crafted by fabled nerd merchants, Fangamer, the physical edition of TUNIC goes beyond just slapping the game on a PS4 disc or Nintendo Switch cartridge and calling it a day, offering a chunky box stuffed with printed goodies, including an actual instruction booklet based on the pages players find in-game (and thus kind of a spoiler, but read it at your own peril I guess) along with a beautiful map, sticker sheets, and a less-spoilery instruction leaflet among other things. Here’s what you get in totality:
TUNIC Physical Edition (PS4/Switch)
- Full-length staple-bound manual with the full contents of the in-game manual (full of spoilers!)
- Mini-manual with basic instructions (and no spoilers)
- Foldout map of some areas and dungeons
- Sticker sheets with iconography from the game
- Digital download code for a copy of the complete soundtrack by Lifeformed and Janice Kwan
The best part is it’s out in Aussie stores this week! Both the PS4 and Switch physical copies of TUNIC RRP at $79.95 and are due for release on August 11th at most of the usual video game retailers.
If you’re after a discount, Amazon also has the game available on both formats for a cheaper $69 with free shipping, so grab that here while it’s still around – this one isn’t likely to be restocked!
Explore a land filled with lost legends, ancient powers, and ferocious monsters in TUNIC, an isometric action game about a small fox on a big adventure.
