ORIGINAL STORY: It had been rumoured for the last few months that a new AFL game would be coming this year, and we now have our most concrete evidence yet.
As discovered by Aussie Twitch streamer Twistie, an AFL 26 classification has popped up on the Australian classification board suggesting that an announcement is imminent.
AFL 23 released two years ago, and took quite a while to get all of its features including pro team, so now that it’s feature complete, it makes sense that Big Ant would be looking to release an updated version under a new title that better represents the year.
As for when it’ll be announced, we’re 5 rounds into the AFL 2025 season, so no time like the present. We expect it’ll be in the very near future and will keep you posted as soon as its announced.
We gave AFL 23 a 5/10 and said: “AFL 23 is inconsistent in its attempts to emulate the most complicated sport on the planet. It jags six points by delivering arguably the best gameplay we’ve had, but doesn’t make the distance in serving up a complete, robust package.”
It’s also expected that a new NRL game by Big Ant is coming this year as well, so it’s set to be a big year for Aussie sport games.
