I got the chance to spend half a day playing Donkey Kong Bananza last week (full preview here), and something that I haven’t been able to get over is just how caked up Donkey Kong is.
I got to experience two of the new bananza power-ups in Ostrich Bananza which allows Donkey Kong to fly and drop eggs as bombs, but it’s the Kong Bananza that absolutely caught my eye, and for good reason.
Whilst Donkey Kong takes this formation, he becomes a much bigger, angrier and destructive version of himself, but he’s also extremely caked up whilst doing so.
The king of swing has a massive booty whilst in this power-up. It has it’s own little physics engine that reacts to movement as he climbs and smashes his way through environments, but the developers knew what they were doing in building this model.
This was most evident in the Canyon Layer where Donkey Kong uses mine carts to get around the world. When you’re in Kong Bananza mode, DK’s booty can’t fit inside of the mine cart, with his cheeks sitting on outside of the cart, bouncing around as you make your way along the tracks.
I’m extremely eager to see not only how that booty reacts in some of the other worlds, but also to get a look at what the other Bananza power-ups look like as whilst the Ostrich Bananza doesn’t have a thick booty, the design is extremely over the top as well, with fairly an extremely distinct design and hilarious expressions as well.
Donkey Kong Bananza is out on July 17th exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. Amazon has the cheapest price at $99 with free shipping HERE.
