Nintendo has announced several changes that will hit the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and its line of accessories that will come into play in the EU due to European battery regulations.
The main one hardware being updated to include a user upgradeable battery with the Nintendo Switch 2, Joy-Con 2, Switch 2 Pro Controller and 64/GameCube controllers all being updated, and will all hit at different times starting later this year. It’s unclear if these products will roll out worldwide.
Seperate to this, Nintendo announced that the original Nintendo Switch would be discontinued in February 2027 and will no longer be sold. This includes the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED and Nintendo Switch Lite, and again, it’s unclear if this will apply to the rest of the world as well.
With the OG Switch still chasing PS2 lifetime sales, 10 years after launch, it seems unlikely that Nintendo would pull the plug globally, but we’ll have to wait and see if anything else is confirmed.
