In a bit of a surprise announcement, Daedalic Entertainment has revealed Lord of the Rings: Gollum. This is a new action-adventure game that focuses on Gollum himself. The story will focus around the moments following him acquiring the ring, before the Lord of the Rings novels and films.
The game is set to release in 2021 on consoles and PC, which pretty much means that it’s a guarantee to be a next-gen game. Not a lot of other details about how the game will play have been revealed.
“You already have that big conflict in the character, two voices talking to you continuously, which means there is a good reason there are decisions to make in the game: the Smeagol decisions or the Gollum decision,” Carsten Fichtelmann, CEO and co-founder of Daedalic Entertainment, tells The Hollywood Reporter.
It’s definitely a little bit of a surprise for this game to be announced, but I’m pretty damn stoked. The Lord of the Rings is one of my favourite franchises, and Gollum is definitely one of the more interesting characters from the franchise.
