The PS5 Will Reportedly Launch In Mid November With Xbox Series X Launching First

VGC is reporting that they have heard from both development and retail sources that mid-November is when the PlayStation 5 is likely to launch in stores. The date they’re specifying in particular is November 13th, which makes sense given Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has a PS5 marketing deal and is set to launch on the same day.

“According to VGC’s development and retail sources, mid-November is exactly when PlayStation 5 is most likely to land. In the UK, we understand that PlayStation has already booked significant marketing spend for the seven days commencing on Friday, November 13. Multiple retail sources have also told us that a launch during this window would fit within their expectations”

VGC also goes on to say that their development and retail sources agree that Xbox will launch first, in the first week of November. “Development and retail sources also agree that Xbox will launch first. Microsoft has told developers to plan towards a launch in the very first week of the November, we understand, which would also give it wiggle room to potentially slip into the second week and still launch ahead of Sony. Xbox sources indicated that the platform holder is also expecting PS5 to arrive within the week commencing November 13″

VGC goes on to say that both console manufacturers are hesitant to share precise release dates for the PS5 and Xbox Series X because of Covid-19 causing global infrastructure disruption.

It’s still unclear when we’ll hear about PS5 and Xbox Series X release dates or pricing, but it’s expected to happen at some point throughout September. Despite challenges, eventually Sony and Microsoft are going to have to make a call.
