PS5 Games Are Definitely More Expensive Than PS4 Games

From a first-party point of view at least, PS5 games are going to be more expensive than they were on PS4.

We got our first look at the first-party PS5 launch lineup today and it’s definitely beefier than expected, but it also brought confirmation that first-party PS5 games are going to be more expensive.

Games such as Demon’s Souls and Destruction AllStars will have an RRP of $124.95 in Australia. Miles Morales will have an RRP of $94.95 (which seems like a lot given the fact it’s a shorter title) whilst Sackboy: A Big Adventure is coming in at $109.95 (a game that probably would have been around the $60-$80 mark if it released on PS4).

So far, Amazon has already dropped the price of Demon’s Souls to $119, Destruction All Stars to $119 and Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales has dropped to $79. Australia is a lot more discount happy than other regions, so I doubt we’ll be paying these prices too often.

Ultimately, games are most costly than ever to create right now, and games have definitely cost more in the past, so it’s an understandable move, but it’s definitely going to give games such as Destruction AllStars and Sackboy: A Big Adventure a bigger barrier of entry (outside of a $749 console purchase). It’s worth mentioning that Sony announced PlayStation Plus Collection today which will bring 17 PS4 games to PS5 free of charge to PlayStation Plus subscribers, so it’s not all bad news.
