PS5 HDMI 2.1

The PS5 Definitely Comes With A HDMI 2.1 Cable

We had assumed that the PS5 came with a HDMI 2.1 cable given that it says 8K on the box. We even went as far as saying that it was a HDMI 2.1 cable in the box in our unboxing, but then speculation began earlier this week, when small markings on the cable were discovered indicating that it was a “High Speed HDMI Cable” which is indicative of a cable capable of 4K/60Hz rather than an “Ultra High Speed Cable” which would be capable of 4K/120Hz or 8K/60Hz.

Sony has now confirmed to GamePro that the PS5 box does include a HDMI 2.1 cable, which means that you’ll be able to take advantage of things like 4K/120, VRR and other new features right out of the box (with a capable TV).

“At this point we want to correct the spread of the misinformation regarding the HDMI 2.1 cable of the PS5. It is an HDMI 2.1 cable. We apologize for the confusion.”
