The PS5 Had PlayStation’s Biggest Ever Console Launch

It’s not a huge surprise, but even though it’s felt like there’s hardly been any stock, Sony has confirmed that the PS5 has had the biggest launch of any PlayStation console.

In a tweet, the company said:

“We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever. Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year – please stay in touch with your local retailers.”

Obviously, Australia is unlikely to be included in this pre-Christmas restock as the majority of retailers have confirmed that they’re all done and dusted for 2020 orders.

For reference, the PS4 sold 2.1 million units in just over two weeks, so the PS5 has obviously surpassed this numbers. Sony predicted that the PS5 would outsell the PS4 in its first fiscal year, which means that they expect to sell more than 7.6 million units.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the next 12 months shake out.
