Sony Is Currently Creating Seven Movies And Three TV Shows Based On PlayStation Franchises

According to a recent interview with Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra, the company has plans to turn multiple PlayStation franchises into film and television productions. This isn’t entirely surprising with the success of recent adaptations like Netflix’s The Witcher or Legendary’s Detective Pikachu. Sony has a lot of unique and more importantly beloved I.P. up their sleeves and I’m sure plenty of fans would love to put the controller down and enjoy their favourite characters and stories in a new way.

Sony has big hopes when it comes to better integrating the world of gaming with the world of film and television and they’re hoping this will happen through One Sony, a cross-media distribution platform, still in its infancy, where these upcoming movies and TV shows will eventually be released.

Unfortunately, Vinciquerra didn’t specify which franchises were going to get the Sony Pictures treatment nor what sort of timeframe we should expect for any of these productions. Still, it’s exciting to know that things are in motion as One Sony shifts from idealistic dream to an approaching reality.

Thanks, Collider!
