A New Resident Evil Showcase Kicks Off The Series’ 25th Anniversary Celebrations Next Month

Resident Evil officially turned twenty five overnight, and Capcom has begun ramping up their celebrations.

While remaining coy about the whole situation, Capcom has announced in a blog post overnight that a brand new Resident Evil Showcase will premiere next month in April. The contents of the showcase are unknown, with the developer sharing “We don’t want to spoil any surprises, so we’ll leave it to all of you to speculate on what this upcoming presentation might contain.

It was also announced that an open beta for Resident Evil RE:Verse will be held from April 8th to April 11th, to test server load and balancing of certain gameplay elements.

Given how many Resident Evil projects are in the works right now, it’s anyone’s guess as to what will be shown. The film reboot recently got an official title – Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City – and will retell the events of the first two games – but we’ve yet to see a trailer or any official production stills. The Netflix anime series also got a nice announcement recently, though we’ve not seen much on it beyond it’s general premise. We’ve yet to see anything on the standalone Netflix live-action series that follows Wesker’s kids. Perhaps we’ll see the first of that?

If you want to get into the stuff that’s rumoured but not quite confirmed officially – a new Resident Evil title is allegedly in production, in similar vein to the Revelations games, for release early next year. Of course, Resident Evil 4 is apparently also getting the remake treatment, though I’d surmise that’s much further away than anything else and probably won’t get announced.

It’s a given though, that we’ll get some form of update on Village. A “proper” demo with inventory management, combat and puzzles was promised back in January. So it’d be no surprise to see something like that drop at the time too.

Resident Evil Village releases for PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X on May 7th. You automatically receive a free copy of Resident Evil RE:Verse with any edition of Village.

No date was announced for the next Resident Evil Showcase.
