That Rumoured Big PlayStation Remake Might Be Chrono Cross

A little while ago, we reported on a strange rumour of a remake of a big PlayStation game being announced in December – by way of Irish musician AVA.

Now, it seems we might already know what that reported announcement is, as VGC reports on comments made by XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker.

Taking to the XboxEra Podcast, Baker said, “Chrono Cross Remastered, I think, was already on the Nivida leak list, so the game shouldn’t be a surprise – it was on Nvidia’s list. But I was told that that VGC article is about Chrono Cross Remastered.

“What else I was told—because everyone’s working under the assumption that it’s a PlayStation exclusive—I’ve been told that it’s not. The only word that was used was ‘multiplat’.

“Now, when I hear JRPG and multiplat, I automatically assume PC, PlayStation, Switch, that’s my assumption. That’s not what I was told, that’s just my assumption. All my source said to me was ‘multiplat’. That’s what they said, they told me it wasn’t PlayStation exclusive.”

Obviously this is all still rumours and conjecture and should be taken with a healthy amount of salt, but if true a Chrono Cross remake would be a phenomenally exciting title for JRPG fans. Though I’m sure many would’ve preferred Chrono Trigger, Cross is a cult classic PlayStation game and features one of the best soundtracks in the genre – perfect for the likes of AVA and Yasunori Mitsuda to collaborate on.

With The Game Awards airing on December 10, we’ll surely know more soon.
