The God Of War TV Series Has Been Officially Been Greenlit By Amazon

Oh, boy!

Deadline has reported that the long-gestating God of War TV adaptation has finally been signed off at Amazon to be developed for Prime Video.

As we’ve previously detailed, the show is being developed in conjunction with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions and has some big names attached, including The Expanse’s Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby as well as The Wheel of Time’s Rafe Judkins as showrunner.

The series has reportedly been in the works since March, but now that negotiations with Amazon are complete, the streaming service has been able to officially reveal plans for the show.

According to a synopsis shared by Deadline, the God of War series on Amazon will focus on the characters as they are in the recent 2018 soft reboot and God of War Ragnarok, rather than any past or unexplored time period/location:

“The series follows Kratos, the God of War, who, after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak—his wife’s final wish. Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new Gods and monsters for the fate of the world. ”
