After numerous teases and a fairly substantial leak at the hands of serial thunder-stealer, billbil-kun, the next Mortal Kombat game has finally been officially revealed.
As was rumoured, it’s titled Mortal Kombat 1 and will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC on September 19th, 2023. Pre-orders for the game begin on May 19th at 3AM AEST and will grant players Shang Tsung as a fighter and access to an upcoming beta in August for those on PlayStation and Xbox.
Boasting a “reborn Mortal Kombat universe” created by the Fire God Liu Kang, Mortal Kombat 1 aims to usher in a new era of the franchise with an immersive story campaign, an all-new fighting game system, new modes and of course plenty of gruesome new fatalities.
Mortal Kombat 1 will feature reimagined fighters like they’ve never been seen before, including Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, and many others. It’ll also feature “Kameo Fighters,” a unique and entirely separate roster of partner characters that assist during matches to create expanded fighting gameplay possibilities.
