Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Release Date

Insomniac Has Confirmed (Again) That Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Will Be A Strictly Single-Player Game

It was Morales confirmed already, but here's a reminder.

Likely surprising few people, Insomniac has addressed an ongoing rumour that its upcoming and highly-anticipated sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, would feature co-op gameplay of some kind – confirming that this is indeed not the case.

Responding to a fan tweet in a thread related to the sort-of-in-between-sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, asking if the new game was going to feature co-op, the official Insomniac account simply and clearly said, “Nope! It is an epic single-player adventure!”

So there you have it, despite potentially looking like a dual-protagonist story, you most certainly won’t be teaming up with a friend in this new PS5-exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man title.

You might be forgiven for wondering why this is something worth pointing out, given that co-op play isn’t really something that fans were expecting for the game and the studio had already outright confirmed it would be a single-player game the day it was announced. As it turns out, back in September the game’s voice actor for Miles Morales, Nadji Jeter, had sparked the rumours by hinting at the possibility of a co-op feature to a panel audience at an anime convention, saying “I don’t know if it’s been announced or not, but I think so.”

Voice actors have seemingly been trouble for this game across the board, with Venom actor Tony Todd also seemingly spilling some (arguably more believable) tea with the suggestion that the game would be launching this September. Todd had said in a since-deleted tweet, “Looks like September! Massive publicity coming in august. Commercials start dropping in august so I’m told. Hold on to your … and hold breath! Gonna be necessary.”

At any rate, there’s a very good chance that we’ll learn a lot more about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 this week, with Sony holding a massive, hour-long PlayStation Showcase on Thursday 25/5 at the ripe time of 6AM AEST. Find out more about that here.
