The Gran Turismo Movie Is Showing Early For Aussie PlayStation Plus Members

Drivin' theatre.

PlayStation has announced that Aussie PlayStation Plus subscribers and racing fans can catch the upcoming Gran Turismo movie ahead of its August 10th release through special PlayStation Plus screenings at select cinemas.

Although these special early screenings are being advertised as an exclusive for those with PlayStation Plus memberships, as far as we can tell anyone can head to the Tickets page on the official Gran Turismo movie website to find these screenings, which are taking place on Friday, August 4th, and buy tickets. Sessions and seats are limited of course, so if you’re hanging out to see David Harbour and Orlando Bloom whip a bunch of stereotypical Gamers™ into real-life racing professionals we’d suggest getting in quick.

Failing that, Aussie fans can also get in on other advance screenings for Gran Turismo at select cinemas like Hoyts, running from Friday August 5th until Sunday August 6th. Village Cinemas even has an in-house tournament followed by a film viewing, which you can learn more about here.

Take a look at the most recent trailer for the film below:

Gran Turismo is directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium, Chappie, Elysium) and stars Archie Madekwe, Orlando Bloom and David Harbour among others. Much like the first trailer, this one looks appropriately over-dramatic (and with slightly fewer digs at gamers), as well as more of the actual racing action both on streets and on-track that’s been promised to be some of the most visually stunning of its kind, with hyper-detailed shots inside tiny racing cockpits and unique video-game inspired racing POV shots that were apparently made possible due to the versatility of Sony’s cameras and some hardcore camera rigs strapped to cars.

Check your local cinema for exact availability and times and book ahead if you’re keen to get a look at this new video game to film adaptation before the general public.
