This morning saw the premier of the year’s first PlayStation State of Play, which gave us a look at around 40 minutes of reveals and updates on games coming to PlayStation in 2024 and beyond. There were some neat surprises (early leaks be damned) as well as some exciting extended looks and new information on upcoming games.

One of those surprises (again, unless you were following early leaks) was the reveal of Metro Awakening, a brand-new title set in the iconic Metro franchise and developed for the PlayStation VR2, which is coming at some point in 2024.

The game looks to have all the hallmarks of a Metro game, only with added immersion thanks to the PS VR2. It’s being developed by the VR veterans at Vertigo Games, and has been worked on in conjunction with Deep Silver. Metro Awakening will be an origin story, set before the events of Metro 2033, and will feature an all-new story is penned by series creator Dmitry Glukhovsky. Players will play as a doctor searching for his wife amongst the claustrophobic, irradiated metro tunnels of post-apocalyptic Moscow.
