Rage 2 Taps Into Mad Max: Fury Road With Convoys

During QuakeCon, we got another look at Rage 2, the upcoming sequel co-developed by Avalanche Studios and id software. The extended seven-minute package featured some stuff we’d already seen along with a few new revelations.

One such reveal was the threat of enemy convoys, usually comprised of a fleet of smaller buggies surrounding a much larger, armed to the teeth big rig. These encounters look insanely fun and I can’t help but compare it to Mad Max: Fury Road. The aesthetic similarity is the most obvious, but in terms of explosiveness, it’s a match, also.

It’s hard to know exactly how to encounter these war rigs. It might very well be a random and roaming threat that pop up periodically in the world, or they might even be like the legendary ships in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag which had to be sought out and hunted. I sort of hope for the latter and that they’re tough as woodpecker lips as it’d give greater weight to the encounters.

There was a lot of other cool stuff in the extended look, so be sure to watch that above. Plus, it was just announced that the original Rage has been added to Xbox Game Pass, so if you’re an adopter you can now pick up that game as part of your subscription.

Rage 2 is expected to release in early 2019.
