There has been an overwhelming amount of news from Microsoft this week but something that is bound to impact every Xbox user, regardless of whether you managed to snag a Series X/S or not, is the company’s jaw-dropping announcement regarding their recent acquisition of ZeniMax Media, including Bethesda Softworks.
Earlier this week Microsoft’s Phil Spencer confirmed that Bethesda’s heavy-hitting franchises, including Fallout and Wolfenstein, alongside hugely anticipated upcoming titles, like Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6, would be heading to Game Pass. Now, it looks like DOOM Eternal, released earlier this year, will be joining the game changing lineup as well.
Xbox fans first started to speculate on the possibility after Xbox posted this rather cryptic Tweet from their official account:
Melissa said not to drop hints so we're not dropping hints. there are absolutely no hints in this screenshot. don't bother looking for them. there are none pic.twitter.com/0PQ41B260S

While it doesn’t look like much on the surface (Microsoft pun not intended), some super sleuths noticed that by combining the first letters of each sentence in the email, we are left with the phrase “Look Below”.
Look below where? This question was swiftly answered once people started fiddling with the colour and contrast of the email, which revealed the phrase “The Slayer is Coming” in the space below Melissa’s name but above her company signature.

Developed by id Software, DOOM Eternal is the direct sequel to DOOM, winner of The Game Awards’ Best Action Game of 2016, it is currently available from Xbox for $AU99.95 but we hope to see it available for download on Game Pass for Xbox and PC in the near future.
