Elden Ring’s huge new Shadow of the Erdtree DLC expansion is finally out, with players all over the world chucking a collective sickie and taking their first, tentative steps into the Realm of Shadow.
It’s a momentous occasion on its own, with fans having not only a great excuse to dive back into a modern classic, but a swathe of new land to explore, new enemies and bosses to challenge and new lore and secrets to uncover. It’s also already become the highest-rated video game DLC of all time on Metacritic.
Sitting at a massive Metacritic score of 95 after 59 approved critic reviews (on PS5, it’s a point or two less on other platforms), Elden Ring has earned itself a “Must-Play” badge from the review aggregate site and one glance at the list of reviews shows a staggering number of full 10/10 scores.

It doubles down on all of the best parts of Elden Ring and bolsters them through an inviting new world, an engaging story, and a ridiculously moreish gameplay loop.
