Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 isn’t due to launch until September 9th, but in devastating news for the folks at Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment, a pre-release build of the game – reportedly completely playable from start to finish – has managed to make its way online via torrent servers.

It’s still unclear where the build in question came from, or when it dates to, but users who’ve played/seen it in action report that it’s at least as recent as the past few months, can be played in its entirety with only some placeholder/missing UI elements and assets, and even includes server binaries so it can be played in multiplayer.

Naturally, we’re not going to include links to any of the leaked materials or footage of the game’s build being played (most of it looks to have been scrubbed already, anyway), but there’s further reading on the Reddit thread here if you’re curious about how the situation has developed and what’s been gleaned.

It’s not often that we see a near-complete game leak like this, months before it’s meant to launch, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a hugely-anticipated sequel to a beloved game from 2011 so it’s hugely disappointing to see it play out like this.

Saber and Focus recently cancelled a planned public online beta for the game, saying, “Our teams at Focus and Saber have been truly blown away by your passion, and we’ve loved seeing the fan art, reactions and memes that you have shared so far.

“Space Marine 2 is almost ready. We are now entirely focused on optimization, polish and fixing remaining issues ahead of launch on September 9. This means we will not run a public online beta, as it would take the development teams away from preparing for the full launch, and our priority is to ensure the best possible experience at release.”
