Microsoft Just Dropped The Final (!) Wave Of Backwards Compatibility Games For Xbox One

Microsoft this morning have announced that they will be adding the final wave of backwards compatible game to Xbox One this week. With Scarlett coming next year, they’ve shifted their focus to making sure that four generations of Xbox games work on the new console so it makes a little bit of sense that updates to backwards compatibility for Xbox One would cease.

That’s not to say that more announcements might come after Scarlett launches, perhaps, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

The following original Xbox games will hit the backwards compatibility service this week. Some may be purchased digitally, but will also install off any physical discs you might have lying around.

  • Armed and Dangerous
  • Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb
  • Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent
  • Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict

A selection of RARE games have also been given the Xbox One X Enhanced treatment, offering higher resolutions, improved texture filtering and colour detail than ever was offered when they launched all those years ago. If you own any of these games individually, you’ll be able to update these games straight away. If you own Rare Replay, that’ll work too!

The RARE games getting the Xbox One X Enhancements are:

  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts
  • Banjo-Tooie
  • Kameo Elements of Power
  • Perfect Dark
  • Perfect Dark Zero
  • Viva Piñata
  • Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise

As a final thank you to the community, Microsoft have also announced a final collection of “favourites” that will come to backwards compatibility this week from the Xbox 360 Library.

  • Asura’s Wrath
  • Battlefield 2: Modern Combat
  • Enchanted Arms
  • Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
  • Far Cry Classic
  • Far Cry Instincts Predator
  • Infinite Undiscovery
  • Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie
  • Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands
  • Skate
  • Star Ocean: The Last Hope
  • Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
  • Syndicate
  • Too Human
  • Unreal Tournament III

Too Human, perhaps owing to legal troubles in the past, will be offered for free to everyone, which is a nice touch as well.
