2018 has the potential to be the biggest year on record for PlayStation. The last few years have been light on the exclusive front, with a number of games having been in development for several years. Here’s a bunch of PlayStation exclusives that will be releasing in 2018 (and a few others that are a sneaky chance to release later this year.
THE INPATIENT
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: Absolute Certainty
The Inpatient is probably my most anticipated VR title of 2018. It’s set in the world of Until Dawn and seems to bring every bit of the suspense that Until Dawn delivered. It’s a prequel to the game apparently set 60 years before-hand. You are in a mental asylum suffering from amnesia. The Inpatient releases on January 24th.
SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: Absolute Certainty
Shadow of the Colossus was originally released on the PlayStation 2 in 2005. As the player, you set out on a number of epic journeys in order to track down and defeat a number of epic enemies. It requires a huge amount of exploration and puzzle solving in order to figure out how to defeat each enemy. The game has upgraded graphics as well as some helpful changes to make the game more accessible. Shadow of the Colossus releases on February 16th.
BRAVO TEAM
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: Absolute Certainty
Bravo Team is another PlayStation VR game by SuperMassive Games (Until Dawn, The Inpatient). You make your way from point to point shooting a number of enemies. There’s a high focus on popping in and out of cover and is one of the most intuitive VR games that I’ve had the chance of playing. It also makes great use of the VR aim controller if you’ve got one in your arsenal. Bravo Team releases on March 6th.
GOD OF WAR
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: Almost Definitely
God Of War is a reboot of the popular franchise. It follows Kratos and his son and takes them to Norse mythology. It looks a lot more slow paced and story focused and seems to take visual cues from other popular PlayStation franchises. It’s been documented that God Of War has had development troubles, but seems to be nearing completion. God of War is scheduled for release in 2018.
DETROIT: BECOME HUMAN
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: Almost Definitely
The hype train for Detroit: Become Human has been a bit over the shop. Heavy Rain was one the best PS3 exclusives whilst Beyond: Two Souls was definitely a little bit all over the shop. The more I’ve seen of David Cage’s Detroit, the more I’ve wanted to play it. Whilst it’s been controversial, it definitely is intriguing and seems to tackle some fairly topical issues. Detroit: Become Human is scheduled for release in 2018.
SPIDER-MAN
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: Almost Definitely
Spider-Man is being developed by Insomniac Games (Ratchet and Clank, Resistance) and genuinely looks like it could be the best Spider-Man gave to ever release. It’s a completely unique story and based on what we’ve seen has a high emphasis on combat. Spider-Man is scheduled for release in 2018.
DREAMS
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: Surely
We had this in our list last year and I was certain it’d come out. With them revealing a brand new gameplay trailer at PSX last year, I’d say it’s now or never for Media Molecules’s Dreams. We still don’t really know what the game is, but it almost certainly looks to be a platform similar to that of Little Big Planet. Media Molecule has a flawless track record, so it’s one to watch nonetheless. Dreams has no release window.

DAYS GONE
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: Likely
Whilst we haven’t seen a lot of Days Gone, it’s been in development for a huge amount of time. What makes me think that it’s releasing this year though is the fact that PlayStation would be silly to release this anywhere near The Last Of Us 2. I’d say it’s not likely that TLOU2 would release until late 2019, but releasing Days Gone even early next year, would put it too close for comfort just based on the fact that the settings are obviously quite similar. Days Gone has no release window.
CONCRETE GENIE
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: Likely
Concrete Genie is the second game from PixelOpus who are known for their work on Entwined. The game is about a young boy named Ash who uses paintings in order to make his world a bright place. You’ll basically use the DualShock 4 to paint landscapes and bring creatures to life. It’s definitely one to watch. Concrete Genie has no release window.
GHOSTS OF TSUSHIMA
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: Will Probably Miss
I don’t think that anyone was expecting Sucker Punch to announce a game like this. Announced at Paris Games Week, Ghosts of Tsushima is an open-world game set in 1274 Japan. We haven’t seen any gameplay yet, and Sony has said that it’s scheduled for a 2018 release, but I suspect it might miss just due to the fact that 2018 is stacked. Ghosts of Tsushima has no release window.
THE LAST OF US II
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: Can’t See It
Last we heard, The Last Of Us II was roughly 50% finished. There’s a small chance it could be Sony’s flagship game for 2018 but I can’t see it. I still think that The Last Of Us II will be a massive game for Sony in 2018 just based on hype alone. I think that we’ll see it as almost every major showing and I have no doubt we’ll see one or two gameplay sequences at most likely E3 and PSX. I think it’ll be their massive holiday game next year. The Last Of Us II has no release window.
DEATH STRANDING
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: No Chance
It’s probably the PS4 exclusive that we’ve seen the most of in the last 18 months, but ironically know still next to nothing about. I don’t think there’s any chance of us seeing it in 2018 and I’m not even convinced that we’ll see gameplay this year. I think that this game is almost definitely in 2019 and could even be a 2020 game. No doubt we’ll continue to see teasers throughout the year. Death Stranding has no release window.
MEDIEVIL
CHANCE OF RELEASING IN 2018: Hopeful
I do think that Medieval is a small chance of releasing later this year, just because we saw such a quick turnaround with Shadow of the Colossus. I think that it could potentially release early-middle of next year though, as this was incredible successful with Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. It’s a great game to bring in some nostalgic, casual gamers and I can’t wait to play it again. Medievil has no release window.
