Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has confirmed that the Nintendo NX will not be sold at a loss. It is common for companies to sell consoles on launch for less than they cost to make in order to keep the RRP down. They often make that cost up in launch titles. This either means that the Nintendo NX will be quite expensive at launch, or not include the latest technology. Kimishima also went on to say that the Nintendo NX was delayed in order to give the console a stronger launch lineup. The Nintendo will launch in March 2017.
“We are not thinking of launching the hardware at a loss, When Wii U was launched, the yen was very strong. I am assuming that situation will not repeat itself. Selling at a loss at launch would not support the business, so we are keeping that mind in developing NX.”
