Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Has Topped The First Movie As The Top-Grossing Video Game Adaptation Of All Time

Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the recently-released sequel to 2020’s wildly successful Sonic the Hedgehog film, has just broken box office records to be the top-grossing video game adaptation of all time – a title previously held by its predecessor.

SEGA announced the achievement, stating that the film has recorded a global box office gross of USD $331.64 million, beating out the first Sonic the Hedgehog’s USD $319.71 million. That’s without the sequel having been released in Japan yet either, it’s set to launch there on August 19.

Sonic fans are eating good this year with the recent film, the upcoming Sonic Origins collection, the brand-new Sonic Frontiers and the upcoming Sonic Prime animated series on Netflix to look forward to.
