SEGA has announced that Sonic Origins will release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Steam and Nintendo Switch on June 23rd. It sounds like it will be a digital only release at least initially.
The collection will include:
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Sonic & Knuckles
You’ll be able to play the games in Classic mode which will feature the games in its original resolution and limited amount of lives, whilst Anniversary Mode will let you play the game in a new widescreen resolution with infinite lives.
There’s also missions which allows you to collect coins for use in the game’s museum mode which will let you unlock new content and special stages.
For a retro Sonic collection, some of the collections are downright bizarre. For instance the Start Dash pack will give you access to 100 bonus coins and a letterbox background whilst the Premium Fun Pack will give you access to hard missions and character animations in the main menu whilst the Digital Deluxe edition will give you camera controls over the main menu islands. None of things are particularly fundamental to the experience, but it seems odd to lock them behind extra editions.
