Sonic the Hedgehog had a bumper year last year that saw the release of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film, a retro compilation in Sonic Origins and the successful launch of the brand-new mainline game, Sonic Frontiers in what series producer Takashi Iizuka has called “the biggest year in the history of Sonic.”
At the tail end of 2022, we also got Sonic Prime, a brand-new CG animated series from Netflix that’s seemingly done well enough for itself as we now have confirmation that more is on the way.
While it’s unclear in what fashion we’ll see more of Sonic Prime in 2023, whether it’s additional episodes, an entirely new season or something else, the Blue Blur’s official Twitter has encouraged fans to “Get ready to sink into more Sonic Prime, coming your way later this year!”

This coincides with what SEGA is calling a “second wave” of Sonic content for 2023, which we already known includes a hefty content roadmap for Sonic Frontiers with three major, free updates coming to the game that will bring new challenges, new story content and even new playable characters.
We gave Sonic Frontiers a 7.5/10 in our review, saying “Sonic Frontiers is an unsteady first run at the open-world genre for the blue blur but Sonic Team has crafted something endearing and immensely enjoyable all the same.”
