Four New Sonic The Hedgehog LEGO Sets Are Coming In August

They're gonna go fast!

LEGO has finally unveiled four new Sonic the Hedgehog sets, long after they were originally leaked to be impending.

Unlike the existing Green Hill Zone set that falls under the LEGO Ideas banner, these new additions are aimed at a younger audience and are more geared towards active play than display. The core component is the idea of Sonic’s Speed Sphere, which can be launched across the built LEGO courses, which include things like loops and rings in the bigger Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge set.

The official tagline from LEGO for this new series reads, “Fast action fun meets creative play with LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog™ playsets. Fans of the Blue Blur can create scenes inspired by favourite Sonic adventures. When it’s time for a change of pace, kids can enjoy imaginative play caring for Sonic’s animal friends.”

There’s also this excellent promo video:

The sets range in price from $52.99 to $169.99 and feature Sonic, Robotnik, Tails, Amy and plenty of other recognisable components. They’re all listed on the LEGO website now with sale starting on August 1st, 2023:

In other Sonic the Hedgehog news, the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movies’ spin-off TV show, Knuckles, has officially begun production in London and some of the key cast and crew have been announced, including Idris Elba reprising his role and most of the film’s key creatives helming the series.

The Knuckles series is coming to Paramount Plus, and the first tease on social media shows the iconic Knuckles the Treasure Hunter hat that long time fans will know from Knuckles’ feature in the 1996 Sonic the Hedgehog anime film.

SEGA must also be making some significant returns on its partnerships with these productions as well, given it just acquired Angry Birds maker, Rovio, to the tune of over $1 billion AUD.
