Though I’m sure there are folks out there still working their way through Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which only launched in January, series director Masayoshi Yokoyama is already talking about the next entry.
Speaking in a livestream on the official Ryu ga Gotoku YouTube channel, Yokoyama revealed that public auditions are opening soon for a new title, similar to the ones that were held for Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name to cast its live-action hostess sequences. Aside from revealing that auditions are happening, the director remained somewhat tight-lipped about this next project, saying that he’ll have more information to release soon (translation via Games Talk).
Something Yokoyama did reveal is that this upcoming title will be a new work and not Yakuza/Like a Dragon Kiwami 3, noting the huge interest from the comments in the stream. “It’s interesting, new work. It’s strange for me to say that, but it’s probably better to deny it properly since it’s been written so much, but it’s not ‘Kiwami 3’. I’ll just say that, I think I’ll do Kiwami 3 at some point. I’m sure I’ll do it someday.”
Said comments were also quite adamant about a new Judgment game, which the director didn’t similarly dismiss, so who knows?
I gave Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth a huge 9/10 in my review, saying, “Infinite Wealth is a stellar follow-up to Yakuza: Like a Dragon in just about every way. It’s bigger, bolder and with some smart tweaks to combat it’s a significantly better turn-based RPG. Series fans have a ton to look forward to in the larger-than-life story and emotional character moments, and though there are some glaring issues with its dungeons and post-game offerings, the end result is the franchise’s best entry yet.”
