Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Has Sold 8 Million Copies

Well over 9000.

Bandai Namco has revealed that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, its 2020 action RPG based on the anime series of the same name, has now crossed the threshold of 8 million copies sold.

The game, which follows the exploits of Goku as he and his friends square off against iconic villains like Frieza, Cell and Majin Buu, managed only mixed critical success but has obviously been a huge hit commercially, no doubt propped up by nostalgia for what was a first taste of Dragon Ball for many of us as well as last year’s re-release for modern consoles.

The company’s post announcing the news reads, “Over 8 millions of you have shown your support for DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT. Thank you for helping us reach this great milestone – we hope you look forward to what’s coming next!”

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available right now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch and PC.

In my opinion piece on Kakarot’s PS5 and Xbox Series X|S revival, I wrote, “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed going back to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and the game’s new-gen upgrade is exactly what it should be – relatively substantial and without requiring a second purchase.”
