Yakuza/Like a Dragon fans holding out for info on Ryu ga Gotoku Studio’s next big title might still have to wait for anything concrete, but at a recent Anime Expo panel the series’ producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto hinted at big things for the future. RGG reportedly told attendees that it couldn’t divulge what the next game is, but that we will be “surprised” by it.

Fans in attendance at the event later clarified that the team was specifically talking about the next entry in the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series, so it seems pretty safe to say we’re not going to be surprised by a new Super Monkey Ball announcement in the near future. RGG also recently revealed the 10 finalists in its auditions to find models for an in-game minigame in the next Like a Dragon title, which implies the next game won’t significantly change up the open-world urban structure of the rest of the series.
"We can't tell you what kind of game it is but I will tell you .. you will be surprised."
WHAT IS RGG COOKING.

It’s certainly going to be an exciting future for RGG/Like a Dragon with a live action series adaptation set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in October. Directed by Take Masaharu and Takimoto Kengo, the series will be a six-episode run released in two batches, with the first dropping on October 24th (25th in some regions) and November 1st. As reported by Variety, it’ll be set across two time periods in 1995 and 2005 and follow the life and story of iconic series protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu.
I gave the most recent Like a Dragon game, Infinite Wealth, a huge 9/10 in my review, saying, “Infinite Wealth is a stellar follow-up to Yakuza: Like a Dragon in just about every way. It’s bigger, bolder and with some smart tweaks to combat it’s a significantly better turn-based RPG. Series fans have a ton to look forward to in the larger-than-life story and emotional character moments, and though there are some glaring issues with its dungeons and post-game offerings, the end result is the franchise’s best entry yet.”
